"Germany. And there are excellent reasons for that. Germany is the only country that has no speed limit highways.
Now think. If they build their cars the way all other countries do, the cars would spend more time in the garages getting fixed, than on the highway. They have to be able to cruise at in excess of 125mph, all day if necessary. Try that with any American or Japanese car, and you WILL spend a lot of time in the garage.
In 1968 I drove a company car, Ford with a 460 cu in engine (7.5 liters) with heavy duty trailer package, extra large radiator and air.
Driving up the 7% grade from Reno Nevada going north, I was doing about 110 mph, with the air cond on and the temp outside was 100 F. Less than halfway up the hill, the water temp light came on and I had to back off to about 85 mph for the temp light to go out. There was no speed limit in Nevada at the time, BTW.
Every time I did that trip, I had to have several valves replaced after returning home, because they bent from the heat.
You would never experience that with a BMW, a Mercedes or Audi, despite the much smaller engines they use, and I wouldn't be limited to a lousy 110 mpg either." |
